6. 1949 City Building & Firehouse
In 1944, several fires in Circleville caused town's people to start thinking about a fire department and station with equipment and men to do the fire fighting.
Harold Gottfredson, Bill Fullmer, Rex Whittaker, Ralph Staples, & Ken Dalton began an effort to do this. The Circleville Commercial Club took this over and was able to raise $12,000 to build a new building large enough to house a fire truck, a city office, a jail, restrooms, and a room to hold meetings in, with plans to add a library later. The building was completed on Center Street in 1949. Ken Dalton helped the town get a second-hand fire truck and later a much better one. The Richfield Fire Department helped train the Circleville unit. This unit served Junction, Kingston, Marysvale, & Antimony, as well as Circleville.
