HISTORIC MAP

In 2026, as part of the America 250 Celebration, Circleville received a grant that allowed the town to create a map of historic locations that will soon be added to our newly built town park. We hope this map serves as a way to learn about our past and honor the people and locations that have shaped Circleville!

1. Original Main Street

Circleville’s original Main Street was today’s 100 East.

2. Kenz

Ken Dalton opened a service station on the new Main Street in 1929, as the number of cars had increased through the valley.

3. Historic Movie House

About 1926, the Circleville Cash Store, 100 East 100 North, which had been operated by Vern Johnson, was vacant and movies were coming to the entertainment world.

4. Historic Cheese Factory

The A.O. Smoot Cheese Factory was a business located at 100 East 100 North.

5. Community Center & Dance Hall

In 1892, Orson Dalton built a dance hall at 100 East 470 North, out of lumber with a stage on one end of the building. It is said that this was the largest dance hall south of Spanish Fork.

6. 1949 City Building & Firehouse

In 1944, several fires in Circleville caused town's people to start thinking about a fire department and station with equipment and men to do the fire fighting.

7. Original Log Home

One of the original 53 log homes built in Circle Valley in 1864-65 before the Indian Wars that resulted in all the settlers leaving the area, is located at 470 South. The original roof was probably limbs, brush, and willows covered with dirt.

8. Original School & Latter Day Saint Meeting House

Early in Circleville's history Charles A. Dalton donated 2 acres of land for a school & LDS Church Meeting House at 444 North 100 East.

9. Cemetery

In 1902, Joseph Simkins donated 4 acres of his land to the town for a cemetery.

10. Piute County Potato Grower's Association

Growing potatoes was once a flourishing industry in early Circleville.

11. Butch Cassidy's In Town Home

This in-town home of Butch Cassidy's family is located at 100 West 100 South. It was built by Butch Cassidy's father, Maxmillion Parker for his wife, Ann Gillies and 13 children.

12. George Beebee's Blacksmith Shop

Records indicate that George Beebe had a blacksmith shop located in several places in town.

13. Circleville High School / Piute High School

Construction of a new high school on Center Street began in 1919.

14. Fullmer Hotel

Sometime around 1890 the Fullmer Hotel was built by John Hyrum Fullmer.
